Who was Rosa Parks?
Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist known as the “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement.” On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a city bus, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This act of defiance became a symbol of the fight against racial segregation and injustice.
Why is it important we’re celebrating her?
Rosa Parks’ courageous stand against segregation paved the way for significant advancements in the civil rights movement. Her refusal to surrender her seat ignited a wave of change, leading to the end of segregated public transportation in the United States. Celebrating Rosa Parks reminds us of the power of individuals to make a difference and the ongoing need for equity in all aspects of society.
